Professional Experience

CREATIVE SPARK ART THERAPY - Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, and Durham, NC

Founder, Art Therapist, Facilitator, Coordinator, Artist – January 2016 - Current

  • Contracting with organizations to provide services and programs in the triangle, including: art therapy, art enrichment, groups and individuals sessions, staff enrichment/team building, compassion-fatigue prevention/relief, and caregiver relief groups. Currently working with community centers, retirement facilities, assisted nursing facilities, and hospitals.

 

ORANGE COUNTY DEPARTMENT ON AGING - Two locations:

The Robert & Pearl Seymour Center (Chapel Hill, NC) & The Passmore Senior Center, previsouly Central Orange Senior Center (Hillsborough, NC)

  • Providing therapeutic art workshops, individual therapeutic art enrichment, classes and events for seniors; also, providing enrichment workshops for staff. All ages are welcome.

 

A HELPING HAND, Durham, NC and surrounding areas (July 2015-April 2016)

  • Working with seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in their homes and temporary living situations, assisting with life transitions and coping with the aging process to maintain and/or improve quality of life.

 

PROJECT NEW HOPE INC, NON-PROFIT VETERANS ORGANIZATION, Worchester, Massachusetts (June 2015)

  • Art Therapist for The New Hope Project's Second Annual LGBT Veteran Family Retreat.

 

CREATIVE WELLBEING WORKSHOP, Metro DC/Northern Virginia

Intern August 2014 - October 2014 (unofficially since Spring 2013)

  • Gained an understanding of a business model, based in positive psychology and art therapy that: "provide workshops on stress management, creativity, and well-being" and "collaborate with private and non-profit organizations, universities, practitioners, trainers, students, and clients to share this critical work with others (from Creative Wellbeing Workshops website, Wilkinson & Chilton, 2014)."

 

THE SENATE HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR, Washington, DC (September 2014, October 2015, and October 2016)

  • Educated Senators and their staff about Art Therapy and provided art materials to engage in a therapeutic art activity.

D.C. PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, DC, Metro, DC

Art Therapy Intern August 2013 - July 2014

  • Worked weekly with small groups, dyads, and individually with students for the duration of the school year.

  • Provided services for children ages 4 through 16.

 

GEORGE WASHINGTON ART THERAPY CLINIC, Alexandria, VA

  • Worked individually with clients in a clinic setting.

 

WASHINGTON ADVENTIST HOSPITAL – ACUTE INPATIENT CRISIS UNIT & INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM, Takoma Park, MD

  • Worked as a collaborative member of the expressive therapies team on the adult acute psychiatric unit and the intensive outpatient program (IOP).

  • Provide an open art studio in a pediatric oncology wing of a hospital for patients and families of patients.
